Lovely and inviting space, you have created. Your artwork above the mantle has such a happy vibe, and I've never seen a coffee table like that. Enjoy your space!
Love your writing, as always. And your new space is warm and beautiful with the Turkish rug. FYI, my grandfather was an Armenian rug merchant and we have rugs galore in varying conditions...in our storage in LA! Hoping they will find a floor soon. Meanwhile, here is the one I stashed in a suitcase to bring to Australia...
My grandmother had many beautiful rugs due to a lifelong friendship with an Armenian rug dealer who emigrated to NC -- he was incredibly generous and gave rugs as gifts. My grandmother's house was modest but seemed so luxurious and cosmopolitan due to the rugs! Over the years, her rugs were damaged or given away or just wore down to threads, and I felt the sadness you describe at losing your mom's. So, I took a different tack -- I went online to Wayfair, searched for [inexpensive, machine-made] rugs, and now marvel at how beautiful -- and how easily replaced -- they are.
Fantastic!! And Iām thankful for Thursday mornings when I get to read your Substack!
