Last winter the wife and I made it a point to do a bit of hiking in the winter. Neither of us are fans of the sticky humidity and endless sweats of warm weather hiking, especially in the Carolinas. Last winter, however, we had to lay one of our dogs to rest and the experience left us needing to be *anywhere other than the damn house.* We enjoyed the jaunts and it was a good reason to get to other parts of the area. Although, I was far more reluctant to attempt to ford or rock-hop across the many rivers that intersected some of the trails.
